A few years ago while thinking of setting up a community to spread kindness I was searching for a name that would reflect my mission and I came across the name Cher Ami.
This is the perfect name, not only because it means
“ dear friend “ in French, which is a great name for spreading kindness, but also because Cher Ami was a warhero that saved lives through communication.
Cher Ami is a mail pigeon that is actually decorated with a ‘ croix de guerre’ for it’s service in World War 1. In October 1918 a battalion of 500 American soldiers ( 77th Division ) was surrounded by the enemy without food and munition in France near Verdun. There was no way out so they decided to use mail pigeons as a way to communicate with another battalion miles away.
Unfortunately 2 of them got killed before they were able to deliver the message and then it was up to Cher Ami, he also got shot in the chest and lost an eye, but he managed to get the message delivered and was able to save 194 soldiers. He literally gave his life, in 1919 he died of the injuries, but became a war hero forever.
Speaking about a life rescuing communication!
And I strongly believe that today communication can also ‘save’ lives. We all long to be seen and heard, there is an overall human desire to be connected with others.
So by setting up this Cher Ami community I hope to provide in that need of connection, of being seen and by spreading kindness.
I am sure this mission would be right up Cher Ami s alley 😉
